1. Clean Water

The importance of providing a steady supply of fresh water to our chicken friends can not be over emphasized. A freshly cleaned and filled open pan works great until the first bird takes a drink. Any open water dish will quickly become contaminated with dirt, snot, poo and the likes, making it a  vector for disease. A properly designed “reservoir, pipe, drinker” type of waterer is considered to be a “closed system” that minimizes or eliminates dangerous contaminates.

The use of automatic poultry drinker nipples is probably the best choice to reduce the spread of disease through drinking water.
